Sak is a five-year-old kindergarten student from Cambodia. He lives in Kampong Thom with his mother and older brother, who is in Grade 6. His parents divorced three years ago, and he is currently under the care of his mother, who works as a chef in a private household. He enjoys going to school and likes learning Khmer reading and writing. In his free time, he plays outdoor games with his friends in the neighborhood. His favorite food is vegetable soup, and he hopes to become a police officer in the future. For the past three months, Sak has been experiencing difficulty in breathing during sleep, difficulty swallowing, and recurrent sore throat (pharyngitis). This has affected his sleep quality, which has led to reduced energy, and impacted his ability to focus at school. The recurrent throat infections also cause frequent discomfort and illness. Sak was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause his symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $345 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Sak, which is scheduled to take place on May 13th. During the procedure, surgeons will remove his tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Sak of his symptoms, allowing him a healthier life. His mother says, “After the surgery, I hope my son can breathe and sleep better, so he can wake up energetic, attend school happily, and enjoy being a child again.”

Sethika is an eight-year-old student from Kandal Province, Cambodia, where she lives with her parents, who work as grocery sellers. She is one of a set of triplet sisters and has an older brother. She enjoys reading and writing Khmer and hopes to become a doctor when she grows up. Sethika was born with a facial condition affecting her jaw. In November 2025, she underwent open reduction and internal fixation of the right mandible — a procedure in which screws and a plate were inserted to support correction of the deformity. The hardware now needs to be removed as part of her staged treatment plan, after which surgeons intend to perform mandibular distraction to further improve jaw development and facial symmetry. Fortunately, surgeons at Watsi's medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On June 16th, Sethika will undergo hardware removal, which will cost $378. Once completed, this procedure will allow her staged treatment to continue and support her long-term jaw function and appearance. Sethika's mother said, “As a mother, I am very grateful that my daughter has received this treatment. I hope she will continue to recover well and that each step of her treatment will help her grow up healthy, confident, and happy like other children.”

Jesus is a 12-year-old student from Colombia. He is a calm boy, and like all children, can be mischievous at times, but overall is very easygoing. He enjoys video games and playing soccer. When he grows up, he wants to be a soccer player and play in the World Cup, just like Cristiano Ronaldo. Jesus has an inguinal hernia, a protrusion of abdominal contents through the inguinal canal. Surgery has been recommended to correct it and prevent possible future complications. This condition causes pain, which worsens with physical activity and may limit his movements. Fortunately, on July 28th, Jesus will undergo repair surgery, and our medical partner, Clinica Noel, is requesting $1,005 to fund Jesus's surgery. Once completed, this procedure should allow him to live more comfortably.
