Ivan is a cheerful and sociable eight-year-old boy from Kenya. He is the firstborn in a family of three and currently in the third grade. He dreams of becoming a mechanic one day, just like his father.
Ivan was born with club foot on his right foot, a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. This has made walking and running difficult, limiting his ability to play with his friends and participate in school activities. Over the years, his parents sought help from different hospitals, where he underwent plastering and physiotherapy, but without lasting improvement.
Recently, Ivan’s parents heard about our medical partner’s care center, AIC CURE Hospital, through community health promoters. They brought Ivan to the hospital’s mobile clinic where he was reviewed and scheduled for serial casting in preparation for surgery.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Ivan undergo treatment. On May 12th, he is scheduled to undergo clubfoot repair surgery. Following a full recovery, he will be able to walk, play, and continue with his education without any limitations imposed by the condition. This procedure will cost $1,286, and Ivan’s family needs your support to fund the surgery.
Ivan says: “I am looking forward to healing quickly, so that I can walk better, and help my parents with household chores.”
