Lemurwa is a 15 year old student living in Kiserian, Arusha in Tanzania, with his parents and three siblings. His father works as a farmer and cattle breeder, and his mother is a dedicated homemaker, responsible for caring for the children and assisting with the milking of the cows. Lemurwa was diagnosed with acquired right genu valgus, a condition caused by the accumulation of excess fluoride in the bones, which results from drinking contaminated water. His right leg exhibits a more severe deformity compared to his left leg, leading to persistent swelling whenever he walks. Lemurwa has been suffering from this progressive knee deformity since the age of three, and things have only worsened over time. His condition limits his mobility and causes significant pain, making it challenging for him to walk long distances and to perform essential tasks, such as helping his family in herding cattle. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $880 to fund corrective surgery for Lemurwa. The procedure is scheduled to take place on May 26th at Arusha Lutheran Medical Center. Treatment should restore Lemurwa's mobility, allowing him to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decreasing his risk of future complications. Lemurwa says: "I hope that after this treatment I will be able to help out at home and that my leg will not be a barrier to my day-to-day life."

Man is an 81-year-old retired rice farmer from Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. He has two sons, two daughters, and 11 grandchildren. Sadly, his wife passed away six years ago. He lives with his oldest son and is a Buddha archbishop. At the local pagoda, he conducts worship services, performs ceremonies, and officiates at festivals. At home, Man likes to listen to the monks pray on the radio. About one year ago, Man developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him photophobia, tearing, and blurry vision. He is unable to read the Book of Buddha or help younger monks with their lessons due to limited vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own. Man traveled three hours to seek treatment with our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), and he is scheduled for cataract surgery on August 4th. Doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery, and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Man is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of the procedure and need help with raising $253 to fully fund his surgery and care. Man said, "I hope after surgery my eye can see clearly again. I can read the Buddha book well and support my pagoda."

Chanda is a cheerful 8-year-old student from Cambodia who lives with her parents and grandmother in Kampong Speu province. Her father works in construction, and her mother and grandmother are rice farmers. She is in grade two and enjoys learning Khmer and English. When she is older, she would like to go to medical school to be a doctor. At home, she likes fried meat with vegetables and chicken soup. Her grandmother is teaching her how to cook, and she enjoys imitating her grandmother in the kitchen. Since the age of two, Chanda has had frequent bouts of pharyngitis - a common viral or bacterial sore throat. She has had trouble sleeping and swallowing for the past two years, and she frequently has a runny nose, fever, and sneezing, and does not feel well enough to attend school. She doesn't want to eat food because it causes her pain, and she does not gain enough weight. Medications from the pharmacy have not helped her symptoms. Chanda was recently diagnosed with enlarged tonsils and adenoids, which, if not treated, will cause her symptoms to persist and possibly intensify over time. Our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC) is requesting $265 to fund a tonsillectomy and adenoidectomy for Chanda, which is scheduled to take place on August 1st. Surgeons will remove her tonsils and adenoids, hopefully relieving Chanda of her symptoms and helping her live much more comfortably. Chanda's family is able to contribute $100 towards the surgery and CSC is requesting $265 to fully fund the procedure. Her mother said, "We hope that after surgery, Chanda will have good health and stop the infection. It will be easier for her to breathe and she will not miss school any longer."
