Dachka is 11 years old and lives in a small city in southwestern Haiti with her mother, father, and three brothers. Her father is a minister, and her mother is a market vendor. Dachka enjoys going to school and singing in church.
Dachka has a cardiac condition called patent ductus arteriosus, in which a hole that normally closes in newborns shortly after birth remains open. Blood leaks through this hole without first obtaining oxygen from the lungs, leaving her weak and short of breath.
Dachka will need surgery to repair the hole. Her surgery is scheduled for May 3. This surgery has been subsidized in the amount of $5,000 by another organization, Gift of Life International. Her family also needs help to raise $1,500 to fund prep for surgery.
“Our family would like to send our thanks and blessings to everyone who is helping Dachka have this surgery,” says Dachka’s mother.
