Boy is a 16-year-old teenager from Cambodia. He lives in Prey Veng province with his mother, his 19-year-old brother, and his 13-year-old sister. His parents are divorced, and his mother supports the family by working in a clothing factory. Before his accident, he was training in construction work and enjoyed playing soccer with his friends.
A month ago, Boy received an electrical shock while working with wires and fell off a ladder at a construction site, fracturing his left wrist. After the accident, he was sent to a local hospital, where an X-ray confirmed a closed left wrist fracture. This hospital offered to operate, but the family had no money to pay. He visited a Khmer traditional medicine practitioner instead, but his hand condition did not improve. Now, his wrist is deformed and he is unable to use it or work.
Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, can help. On September 12th, Boy will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will cost $600. This treatment will heal his fracture, help him regain function, and reduce his pain.
Boy’s mother said: “After the surgery, I hope that my son will be able to use his hand again without feeling any pain.”
