Towera is a 46-year-old woman from Malawi. She is married and has one adult son who is a farmer. Towera used to do farm work together with her husband, but due to her illness, she is no longer able to work on the farm. She likes being with her family and enjoys eating.
For two years, Towera has been experiencing lower abdominal pains associated with heavy bleeding. She has been diagnosed with uterine fibroids, which are abnormal growths that develop in a woman’s uterus. Fibroids might become quite large, leading to severe abdominal pain and heavy bleeding. If left untreated, fibroids continue to grow, both in size and number, worsening the symptoms.
Towera needs to undergo a hysterectomy, a procedure in which surgeons will remove her uterus. Our medical partner African Mission Healthcare is requesting $1,363 to fund the surgery, which is scheduled for January 11th. Once the uterus and fibroids are removed, Towera will be able to resume her daily activities free of pain.
“After this surgery, I am hopeful I will have my peace of mind,” said Towera.
