Watsi community, meet Amni, a six-year-old girl from Guatemala. Amni is a happy child who has a bright smile on her face at all times! Doctors at Wuqu’ Kawoq report that, “Amni is one of the most pleasant patients we have ever had.”
Amni has urinary reflux, a condition in which the valves that prevent urine from flowing backward from the bladder into the kidneys stop working. This causes a constant backup of urine into her kidneys, which have failed as result. This condition is serious, and if it remains untreated Amni will have permanent kidney failure.
Amni and her mother need our support. For $1, 200 we can fund a urinary reflux surgery to combat Amni’s condition. If successful, this surgery should correct the reflux condition and prevent further longterm damage to Amni’s kidneys. Let’s help!

Amni received a urinary reflux surgery to reverse and prevent future kidney failure.
The staff at Wuqu’ Kawoq said, “in a perfect storm of coincidence, a surgical slot opened up almost immediately after posting this case to Watsi, and we were able to get the surgery done right away.”
It was a really big surgery, but Amni did amazingly well and is home recuperating. The postoperative x-rays show that the reflux is completely cured and her kidneys are protected.
Wuqu’ Kawoq added, “Amni’s mom might be our biggest fan. She had been to see countless doctors and clinics over the years, all the while watching her child’s kidney function slowly deteriorate. Thanks to Watsi, we got it done.”
