Savoeun is a 40-year-old rice farmer from Cambodia. She is separated from her husband and lives with her parents and her only daughter, who is currently in her first year of university in Siem Reap province. In her free time, Savoeun enjoys growing lemongrass and chili at home.
When she was very young, Savoeun had an ear infection. This infection caused the ear drum in her right ear to perforate. For this reason, Savoeun experiences recurrent ear discharge and pain. She previously sought treatment at a local hospital, but could not afford the cost of surgery. Presently, she continues to suffer from right ear discharge, hearing loss in her right ear, and tinnitus. When the discharge becomes severe, the pain radiates to her head. Medications from the local pharmacy do not help her.
Savoeun traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On February 4th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her right ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Savoeun and her family are able to contribute $100 towards the cost of her treatment and need help raising $387 more to fund the procedure.
Savoeun’s daughter says: “I truly hope my mother will finally feel better and that her hearing will improve.”
