Kyaw is a 59-year-old man from Burma. He lives with his wife and two daughters in a refugee camp in Thailand. He works as a daily agricultural laborer outside of the camp, and his eldest daughter also earns an income through daily labor. His wife cares for the family, and his youngest daughter attends school in the camp. Kyaw was diagnosed with right eye glaucoma, an eye condition that damages the optic nerve. This can lead to vision loss or blindness. Kyaw continues to experience severe pain in his right eye and blurred vision. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to help fund lens replacement surgery for Kyaw. On September 2nd, doctors will perform a lens replacement, during which they will remove Kyaw's natural lenses and replace them with an intraocular lens implant. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $1,500 procedure. “I don’t have a regular job in the camp, so I don’t have a regular income. I didn’t expect this to happen to me, and I am really worried about my treatment cost. There is nobody to help me, and I don’t know what to do anymore,” said Kyaw.

Jeremia is an 11-month-old baby boy. He is the only child in his family and lives with both parents, who work as pastoralists. They keep cattle and occasionally cultivate maize during the farming season to support their family. Jeremia has clubfoot on both feet, a congenital condition in which feet are twisted inward. Without appropriate treatment, this condition can make walking difficult and affect his ability to wear regular shoes comfortably as he grows. When Jeremia was born, his parents were unaware that medical treatment could help correct the position of his feet. Hope came when the Kafika House outreach team visited their village and identified Jeremia as a child who could benefit from treatment. For his parents, this discovery opened the door to an opportunity they had not previously known was available. Following an assessment, Jeremia has been scheduled to begin clubfoot treatment on October 20th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $341 to fund Jeremia's clubfoot repair. Heang is a 70-year-old woman from Cambodia. She used to sell vegetables at the market, but she has stopped working. She lives with her older sister and her nephew, who works as a trailer driver and supports their living expenses. For fun, she likes to go for walks and exercise. About three months ago, Heang developed a cataract in her right eye, causing her itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go places on her own. When Heang learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On August 3rd, doctors will perform a phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her right eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $263 procedure. Heang shared, "I hope my eye surgery will restore my sight so I can recognize my relatives, travel to places further away, and no longer worry about my eyes."
