Khu is a six-year-old boy from Karen State, Burma. He is in kindergarten, while his younger brother is too young to be enrolled. His father is an agricultural day laborer, and his mother is a homemaker.
When Khu was two years old, he experienced abdominal pain, vomiting, and his lips and face had turned pale. Doctors explained that fluid had formed in Khu’s gallbladder. After treatment, he recovered and was discharged home. However, in April 2026, Khu developed a fever and jaundice, and his mother took him to the nearby hospital. The doctor ordered an ultrasound and diagnosed Khu with gallbladder sludge. The doctor explained to his mother that fluid had formed in the gallbladder. After further investigation, Khu was diagnosed with a choledochal cyst, a cyst that formed in the bile duct.
Khu was referred to our medical partner’s care center, Mae Sot General Hospital, where doctors explained that he needs to undergo a Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) to help doctors develop a treatment plan for Khu. The MRI is scheduled for May 18th, and Khu needs help raising $681 for his procedure and care.
In his free time, Khu enjoys playing with water, sweeping the floor, and helping his parents as much as he can. “He wants to be a doctor when he grows up,” said his mother.
