Mariam is a sweet 6 year-old girl suffering from a bone infection in her upper arm. Osteomyelitis is painful and causes stiffness of the joint and affected area. Mariam has been suffering from osteomyelitis of the upper arm for 4 months.
Before getting sick, Mariam loved playing with her younger brother and sister. She would often help her mom around the house while her father worked the farm. Her father grows corn, beans and teff (the grain that is used to make injera, the traditional Ethiopian bread).
Africa Mission Healthcare Foundation can treat Mariam’s condition. The surgery is expected to give Mariam function of her arm again. Mariam is looking forward to starting school next year, lets help her get there by giving her full-use of her arm again.

Mariam received surgery to treat a bone infection in her upper arm.
Doctors bone grafted a piece of Mariam’s fibula to her arm, to create new bone in her upper arm. She will soon have the use of her arm and hand again but will stay in hospital for a few more weeks to ensure she doesn’t develop an infection.
After the operation Mariam was especially excited to show doctors how she could mover her arm and hold things. She is looking forward to playing with her little sister again.
