Chande is a 72-year-old father and grandfather from Malawi’s Central Region. To support his family, he works as a farmer and fisherman. When he is not working, Chande enjoys chatting with his friends and playing Bawo, a traditional game played on a wooden board.
For the past three months, Chande has been experiencing symptoms associated with an enlarged prostate, including painful urination. Due to the pain, he has stopped working and participating in other activities.
Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) occurs when the prostate squeezes or partly blocks the urethra, causing problems with urination.
Chande will receive surgery that will remove part of the prostate to alleviate the symptoms associated with BPH and restore normal urination. The surgery will cost $742.
Chande has been unable to receive medical treatment until now. He and his family are looking forward to his operation and for him to resume his life, symptom-free.
