Evaline is a four-year-old girl from Tanzania. She was brought to our medical partner’s care center, Kafika House, by her mother, accompanied by her two brothers. She belongs to a pastoralist family where daily life depends on animal keeping, farming, and small household activities. Evaline is a cheerful and social child who enjoys being around other children and following her mother during daily chores.
At an early age, Evaline sustained a burn injury to her left hand. Although the wound healed, it left tight scar tissue that has progressively reduced the movement of her fingers. The stiffness in her hand makes it difficult for her to grasp objects, hold cups, or play normally. Her mother explains that simple tasks such as feeding herself and holding toys are a challenge, and she often needs assistance. The family has limited financial resources and had no access to specialized surgical care when the injury first occurred.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Evaline receive treatment. On February 19th, surgeons at their care center will perform burn contracture release surgery and a skin graft to regain better hand function before she starts school. Now, she needs help to fund this $832 procedure.
Evaline’s mother says, “She cannot use her hand normally because the fingers are tight, and she fails to hold cups or toys firmly.”
