Meet Seng, a 53-year-old grandmother from Cambodia with three sons, four daughters, and seven grandchildren. Our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), informs us that Seng is a rice farmer and enjoys watching Thai dramas on TV.
“Seng developed a cataract in each eye two years ago. This causes her blurred vision, irritation, tearing, and cloudy lenses. She can’t see everything clearly, do work well, or go outside on her own,” explains CSC.
$225 will fund a cataract surgery that will remove Seng’s cloudy lenses and replace them with artificial lenses. Funding for her surgery also includes post-operative care, and within a day of her surgery, Seng will be able to see clearly again.
Seng shares, “I hope my eyes can see everything clearly now so I can continue to work at my field on my farm, make Khmer cake from my harvest, and go anywhere outside.”

Seng received successful cataract removal surgery.
Seng underwent a short cataract removal surgery, during which her clouded lens was removed and replaced with a clear, synthetic implant. For any number of reasons, it can take patients some time to return for follow-up care. Patients often live far away or have important family matters that keep them from coming back to the clinic. Whenever Seng returns, her second surgery to remove the other cataract will be free.
