Meet Venensia, a cool and outgoing primary school teacher from Uganda. She teaches at a private school, and her husband works in the boda boda business. They have three biological children and adopted their brother-in-law’s two children after he passed away. As the income from private teaching is limited, Venensia and her husband also practice small-scale farming to supplement their income. In her free time, Venensia shared that she enjoys taking care of her family by cooking, cleaning, and washing. Venensia’s previous deliveries were all via a cesarean section. She is expecting a new baby soon, and her doctors recommend that she deliver via a cesarean section again to avoid any possible complications. This way, doctors can ensure the safety of both mother and child. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare (AMH), is helping Venensia undergo a C-Section on March 21st. AMH is requesting $252 to fund the procedure. Vanensia said: “We are struggling financially as a family. With the little income we have, we have a lot of dependents and still have to push. We request your support for the success of our delivery.”

Or is a 40-year-old woman from Cambodia. She and her husband have three sons, all of whom are in school studying. Or recently had to leave a better-paying job in Thailand to return home for medical treatment. She now works in a local factory, and her husband works as a farmer. At home, Or enjoys baking desserts and sells them to supplement the family's income. Since Or was very young, she has had an ear infection. This infection caused her left ear's tympanic membrane, or eardrum, to perforate. Medication has not helped relieve her symptoms. As a result of this condition, Or experiences pain and chronic tinnitus, a ringing in her ear that prevents her from hearing people when they speak to her. Fortunately, Or traveled to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), to receive treatment. On December 15th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear to close the perforation. CSC is requesting $487 to fund this procedure, which covers all medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Or's family was able to gather $100 to contribute to her care. Or said, "I heard about CSC from relatives and that I can get treatment for my ear. I hope my ears can be fixed so I feel better and can work again to support my family."

Sophea is an 18-year-old student from Cambodia. She lives at home with her parents and two siblings. Her dad is a rice farmer and her mom cares for the children at home. Sophea spends most of her free time reading and studying. She enjoys spending time with her family and going to school. Sophea was born with club feet, a condition in which the feet are turned in and under, making it difficult to walk and balance. Currently, Sophea uses a wheelchair to help her get around. Sophea's family traveled an hour and a half to visit our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), so she could undergo clubfoot treatment. On February 15th, surgeons will perform bilateral tendon Achilles lengthening (TAL) and casting. Surgery and physiotherapy will improve her mobility. The procedure will cost $572. Sophea said, “I hope I will look better after surgery and walk someday.”
