Samen is a 36-year-old construction worker and mother. She has one son and one daughter, both in elementary school. Her husband works with her for the same construction company. In her free time, Samen likes spending time with her kids and listening to traditional Cambodian music. Five years ago, when she had an electric shock at work, afterwards Samen developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her to be unable to see out of that eye. When Samen learned about our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for four and a half hours seeking treatment. On July 17th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Samen is able to contribute to the cost of the surgery and needs help with $253 to fully fund the procedure. She shared, "I want to improve my vision so that I can work more and earn enough money to stop construction work and open a grocery shop in my village."

Stephen is a nurse from Uganda. He has a certificate in nursing and is employed as a nurse at Rushoroza hospital in Uganda. He stays in the hospital staff quarters because he has not built his own house yet. He is single but has dependents especially his parents who are small scale farmers with very low income. He has one brother and six sisters. During his free time, he enjoys spending time with his family. Four months ago, Stephen began to experience troubling symptoms, including severe abdominal pains of the right upper quadrant. He shared his complications with a doctor at Rushoroza hospital and a scan was done. He was diagnosed with gall bladder sludge and was given treatment. He thought he would feel better but this has not happened. A month later, it was discovered that the sludge had turned into gall bladder stones. He needs surgery to prevent his symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, is helping Stephen receive treatment. He is scheduled to undergo surgery on May 13th at our medical partner's care center. This procedure will cost $284, and Stephen and his family need your support. Stephen says, “My performance has been impacted because of my current medical condition. I pray that I may get well through surgery and continue with my nursing duties at Rushoroza hospital.”

Savoeun is a 60-year-old grandfather from Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. He is married and has one son, two daughters, and three grandchildren. He retired from the military and is now a rice farmer with his wife and son. He enjoys listening to the news on the radio or visiting the local pagoda in their small rural village. About two years ago, Savoeun developed a cataract in his right eye, causing him photophobia, itchiness, tearing, and blurry vision. He feels that he has lost much of his independence due to his limited vision. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so he is not able to go places on his own. When Savoeun learned about our medical partner Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for 4.5 hours seeking treatment. On August 8th, doctors will perform phacoemulsification cataract surgery (cataract surgery that employs ultrasound energy), and an intraocular lens implant in his right eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Savoeun is able to contribute $60 to the cost of the surgery and is asking for help to raise the remaining $253 to fully fund the procedure. He said, "I hope after surgery my eye can see clearly again. I can go to the rice field with my wife and be useful to my family."
