Ei is a 23-year-old woman from Burma. Ei moved to Karen State, Burma with her mother, older sister, and little brother. She got married and has one daughter. The family opened a small restaurant where her husband does the cooking and she helps with the selling.
Two years ago, Ei visited a clinic after experiencing severe abdominal pain. She was diagnosed with a mass in a sensitive area, and was told she might need surgery. Unable to afford the cost, she started using traditional medicines. Ei returned again to the clinic last month because her pain significantly worsened. She needs to undergo an oophorectomy to remove the mass, which will cost $913.
Ei’s family-run restaurant has been closed since her condition has become worse, and her family has had to care for her. The whole family is worried and stressed about her health.
Ei loves watching Burmese movies during her spare time. She would like to get well soon so that she can return to the family restaurant.
“In the future, I wish to buy a house of my own and run a small business that gives regular income to the family,” Ei shared.
