Aneth is a one-month-old baby girl from Tanzania. Her parents are both subsistence farmers who grow crops primarily to provide food for their family, selling any surplus at the market to earn a living. She has one older sibling. Aneth has bilateral clubfoot, a condition in which both feet are turned inward. Without treatment, clubfoot can make it difficult for children to wear normal shoes and walk comfortably as they grow. Aneth’s family learned about clubfoot treatment through a former patient who had previously received care at our medical partner's care center, Kafika House. The former patient encouraged the family to seek medical help for their daughter, giving them hope that Aneth’s condition could also be treated. Fortunately, Aneth's family traveled to Kafika House, where she will first undergo gentle manipulation and casting, a process that will gradually guide her feet into the correct position. After the casting phase, she will undergo a tenotomy procedure to help achieve proper foot alignment. Aneth's treatment will begin on September 21st. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $341 to fund Aneth's clubfoot repair. After treatment, Aneth has a good opportunity to grow with properly positioned feet, enabling her to wear normal shoes, walk comfortably, and participate fully in everyday activities as she grows. Aneth's mother shared, “We are grateful that we were directed here. We hope that through this treatment, our daughter will grow up able to walk well and wear normal shoes like other children."

Rodas is a four-year-old boy who lives in Ethiopia with his parents and younger brother. His father is a hardworking doctor who works hard to provide for his family and help sick people, and his mother is a stay-at-home mother. About one year ago, Rodas began to experience the symptoms of tonsillitis, which makes it difficult for him to breathe normally, and sleep well. His parents first noticed that he was snoring heavily, and often breathed through this mouth instead of his nose. The continued lack of sleep has been difficult for Rodas and his family, as he is often tired and emotional. Because Rodas's tonsillitis is failing to resolve on its own, doctors are recommending surgery to remove his tonsils. Without surgery, his symptoms will persist and possibly intensify. Doctors are also worried that the constant sleep deprivation will affect Rodas's growth and quality of life, and that the mouth breathing will affect the development of his jaw and face. Our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital, is requesting $700 to fund a tonsillectomy for Rodas, which is scheduled to take place on September 20th. Surgeons will remove his tonsils, hopefully relieving Rodas of his symptoms and helping him live more comfortably. His parents say, "We hope that Rodas can finally sleep soundly through the night, without loud snoring or trouble breathing. We also hope that he can enjoy a healthy, happy childhood."

Sokly is a 49-year-old construction worker from Cambodia. He lives in Kandal with his widowed mother, who is a retired farmer. He divorced his wife four years ago, and his two children live with their mother. He has 11 siblings, all of whom are married and live in nearby provinces. In his free time, he enjoys looking after his ducks and chickens. One week ago, Sokly was riding his motorcycle in the rain when it slipped, causing him to fall and fracture his left proximal femur. He received first aid, but the hospital did not have the equipment needed for surgery, so he was referred to our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. The fracture causes significant pain and prevents him from putting weight on his left leg or walking. He currently needs assistance to move around, making it difficult for him to work as a construction worker and manage his daily activities. On August 11th, Sokly will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will stabilize his fractured femur, relieve his pain, and help him regain the ability to walk so he can return to his normal daily activities and work. His family can contribute $50, but needs help raising $550 more to fund his procedure and care. Sokly said, “I hope the surgery will stabilize my fractured femur, relieve my pain, and help me walk again so I can return to my normal daily activities and work.”
