Rebecca is a 48-year-old woman from Kenya. Following a separation from her husband, she started a small roadside vegetable venture to support herself and her child.
For about two months now, Rebecca has been having an irreducible incisional hernia, a condition that occurs when tissue protrudes through a weakened abdominal muscle wall, at the site of a previous surgical scar. Previously in 2010, Rebecca was diagnosed with a hiatal hernia and underwent surgery. The condition recurred again in 2017 and 2024, and both times she underwent surgery, the latest one being a mesh repair procedure.
Unfortunately, two months ago, she began experiencing the same symptoms once more. She had an ultrasound and the surgeon has recommended another hernia repair surgery. If left untreated, Rebecca will continue to experience pain, which may significantly affect her ability to work and provide for herself and her child.
Fortunately, on June 15th, Rebecca is scheduled for hernia repair surgery at Nazareth Hospital. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $517 to fund Rebecca’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow her to live more comfortably and confidently.
Rebecca says: “I have had so many hernia repairs. I am hopeful this time it will be successful and final one. I request for your assistance.”
