Makbel is a 16-month-old baby boy from Ethiopia. He enjoys playing with cars and spending time with his older brother and sister. His mother works in the human resources department of a government organization, while his father is an electrician. Makbel was born with hypospadias, a condition that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, he will continue to experience uncomfortable symptoms and will be at risk of future complications. Makbel was taken to a medical centre and referred to a higher-level hospital for further evaluation. The attending doctor recommended an ultrasound and surgical correction. However, the family was informed that there was a waiting list for surgery. Due to financial constraints, they could not afford private treatment. Eventually, Makbel was referred to our medical partner's care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM), for further management. Upon arrival, his mother expressed relief and gratitude for the support and access to care. Makbel was warmly received at BKMCM, where the medical team conducted a thorough evaluation. Fortunately, Makbel is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on October 30th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,293 to cover the cost of his procedure and care. Makbel’s mother said, "Thank you to BethanyKids for giving my child this chance and opportunity for surgery. We are truly grateful for your support and kindness. Aisan is a one-month-old baby boy from Tanzania. He is the youngest of two children. His parents are farmers who grow maize for household consumption and sell the surplus at the local market to earn income and meet their family’s needs. Aisan was born with clubfoot on both feet, a condition in which both feet are twisted inward. Clubfoot is a condition in which the foot is twisted out of shape. The tissues connecting the muscles to the bones are shorter than usual, and this causes difficulty walking and even wearing shoes. His parents were concerned about his condition and the challenges he might face in the future. Aisan is scheduled to begin treatment through manipulation and serial casting. He will subsequently undergo a tenotomy procedure to help improve foot alignment. Through this treatment, Aisan will have an opportunity to develop with properly aligned feet, allowing him to wear shoes and walk comfortably as he grows. Fortunately, Aisan's family traveled to visit our medical partner's care center, Kafika House. Surgeons will begin clubfoot treatment on October 28th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $341 to fund Aisan's clubfoot repair. After treatment, he will have a better chance to enjoy childhood activities and pursue his dreams without the limitations associated with untreated clubfoot. “We are grateful that Aisan was identified early and given a chance for treatment. We hope he will grow up healthy and walk comfortably like other children,” says Aisan's mother.

Mao is a 56-year-old truck driver from Cambodia. He and his wife have three children. His wife works in a factory, and all of his children are in school. In his spare time, Mao enjoys watching the news and boxing matches on his phone. In late September 2026, Mao slipped and fell in the bathroom, fracturing the neck of his left femur and the upper part of his thigh bone that connects to the hip joint. Since the accident, Mao has had persistent hip pain and difficulty walking, using a crutch to help him get around. His injury has made everyday activities more challenging and prevents him from comfortably carrying out his work as a truck driver. Mao needs to undergo a hip hemiarthroplasty to address his fracture and heal. A hip hemiarthroplasty is a partial hip replacement that involves replacing half of the hip joint. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner's hospital can perform this procedure on October 22nd to relieve Mao of his pain and allow him to walk more easily. Mao contributed $100 to his care and needs help raising $612 to fund his treatment. Mao said, “I hope the surgery will help reduce my hip pain and allow me to walk more comfortably and independently again. As a driver, I want to regain my mobility so I can return to my daily activities and get back to work when I have recovered enough."
