Lina is a 19-year-old garment factory worker from Cambodia. She lives in Takeo province with her parents and two of her four siblings, with the youngest in third grade. Lina and her parents work in nearby garment factories to support the family. In her free time, she likes reading novels, cooking, and she recently started learning Korean.
One month ago, Lina was in a motorbike accident and fractured her left foot. Along with the fracture, she sustained a severe wound on the same foot. It is difficult to walk, and she experiences chronic pain.
When Lina learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On September 17th, surgeons at CSC will perform a skin graft procedure to help her walk easily again and eliminate her chronic pain. Lina can contribute $50 but needs help to raise the remaining $533 to fund her procedure and care.
Lina’s mother said, “I hope that my daughter will be able to walk easily again, and will no longer have pain, so that she can return to her work and have a happy and healthy life.”

The Children’s Surgical Centre surgical team performed a debridement, then took healthy skin from another part of her body and grafted it onto her left foot. After the graft site heals, Lina will begin physiotherapy to stretch and strengthen her muscles gently. With the skin graft and proper healing, she will finally be able to walk without pain, something that has been a daily struggle since her accident. She will be able to return to her garment factory job, which is the primary source of income for her family, and regain the independence to move around freely. Beyond work, Lina can soon enjoy her favorite hobbies.
Lina said, “I am so thankful to have this surgery. I hope I can walk normally again without pain and return to my job. I also want to continue learning new things and have a better future.”
