“Baby C” was just born! Unfortunately, he has a severe cleft lip and palate deformity. This can be dangerous because it will prevent him from feeding normally, and could result in malnutrition. Fortunately, Baby C’s mother lives in a community where Wuqu’ Kawoq has primary care programs, and she knew to come for help.
Wuqu’ Kawoq is calling this little guy “Baby C” because he doesn’t have a name yet. Guatemalan indigenous parents often hold off on naming new babies for several weeks, especially when they have birth defects, in order to make sure that they are going to survive.
Fortunately, with support from Watsi donors, Baby C can thrive. For $850, we can pay for his nutritional care and eventual corrective surgery, making it possible for him to live a normal, healthy life.

This little boy was posted and funded on Watsi as “Baby C.” This is because, in his family’s culture, you often refrain from naming your child if you’re worried they won’t survive. Fortunately, he’s doing very well now and has been named Jairon.
Despite some swelling, Jairon’s photo—taken after surgery shows—his closed lip and healthier appearance due to the nutritional therapy. Thanks to your support, this little boy will develop normally, and have a healthy childhood.
