Sareth is a 68-year-old mop maker. She has three sons, four daughters, and 11 grandchildren. Sareth’s husband passed away many years ago, and now she lives with her youngest daughter, who sells fried noodles for a living.
Two years ago, Sareth developed a cataract in her left eye, causing her blurry vision and sensitivity to light. She has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces. She is also worried about falling when walking, so she is not able to go many places on her own.
When Sareth learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, she traveled there seeking treatment. On February 28th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in her left eye. After recovery, she will be able to see clearly. Now, she needs help to fund this $229 procedure.
Sareth shared, “I hope I can see well so I can take care of my grandchildren and return to my handiwork weaving mops.”

Sareth underwent cataract surgery to improve her vision.
Sareth and her daughter knew about our medical partner from a relative who had surgery, so they had the confidence that Sareth would be well taken care of. After surgery, she stayed in the hospital until surgeons were sure she was stable, and then Sareth was able to return home. She looks forward to making mops to sell again and caring for her many grandchildren - which gives her great pleasure - while her daughter sells noodles.
Sareth’s daughter said: “I am relieved my mother’s eye is better. She can tolerate the bright light outside without help and is no longer worried she will fall. She wants to sell the mops she makes and now she can do that. Thank you to those who helped my mom so she can have a peaceful life with her family and do so much more again.”
