Sudeyes is a 20-month-old boy from Ethiopia. He enjoys spending time with other children, especially playing football. He lives with his mother in the same home as his grandparents, who provide him with additional love and support. As a single mother, Sudeyes’s mother works as a teacher and is committed to providing the best possible care for her son. With the support of her parents, she raises her son in a loving home. Immediately after Sudeyes' birth, healthcare providers informed his mother that he was born with hypospadias, a condition that causes urinary dysfunction. Without treatment, experience uncomfortable symptoms and would be at risk of future complications. The news was overwhelming to his mother, and she feared what it would mean for her son’s future. Before leaving the hospital, she was referred to a specialized facility for further evaluation. When Sudeyes was just two weeks old, his mother took him to the referral hospital, where he was placed on the surgical waiting list. Nearly a year later, he underwent the first stage of his reconstructive surgery. The procedure was successful, but he required a second operation to complete his treatment, and he was placed on a lengthy waiting list. Since the waiting list was lengthy, Sudeyes's mother took him to our medical partner's care center, BethanyKids Myungsung Christian Medical Centre (BKMCM). During their visit, the medical team warmly welcomed them, carefully explained his condition, reviewed his previous treatment, and outlined the remaining surgical plan. Their compassionate communication and professional care reassured her, and she felt confident that her son was in capable hands. Fortunately, Sudeyes is scheduled to undergo corrective surgery on August 20th. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $1,293 to cover the cost of his procedure and care. Sudeyes' mother shared, "I also encourage continued collaboration with government hospitals, where many children and families are waiting and suffering because they cannot access timely surgical care. This partnership gives hope to families like ours and changes children's lives."

Chea is a grandfather of nine from Kandal province in Cambodia. He is 76 years old and a retired farmer who used to grow vegetables and crops to support his family. He has three sons, two daughters, and nine grandchildren. Since he stopped farming, his children have been supporting Chea and his wife. In his free time, Chea enjoys visiting the pagoda and participating in religious ceremonies. About two weeks ago, Chea developed a chalazion in his left eye, causing him eyelid swelling, pain, and itching. A chalazion is an inflamed cyst in a patient's tear gland. It is difficult for him to see clearly, which causes him discomfort. Chea traveled for two hours to seek treatment from our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre. On May 27th, surgeons will remove the cyst through a chalazion excision procedure. After recovery, Chea's symptoms should improve. Chea can contribute $25, but needs help raising $238 more to fund his procedure and care. Chea said, " I hope that the swelling in my eye will completely stop so that I no longer have to worry about it. I will be very happy if I can return to growing vegetables around my house and continue living a peaceful and active life."

Roth is a seven-year-old Grade 2 student from Cambodia. She lives in Kandal Province with her parents and her four-year-old brother. Her father is a police officer, and her mother is a nurse at a private clinic. She enjoys playing with her little brother, loves studying Khmer, and dreams of becoming a doctor. Roth had an ear infection since the age of two. This infection caused the tympanic membrane, or the eardrum, in her left ear to perforate. For this reason, Roth experiences recurrent ear discharge, left ear pain, repeated ear infections, and moderate hearing loss in both ears. The repeated ear infections and hearing loss affect her ability to hear clearly and may interfere with her learning and daily activities. Without treatment, she remains at risk of ongoing infections and worsening hearing. Roth traveled to our medical partner's care center to receive treatment. On July 14th, she will undergo a myringoplasty procedure in her left ear. During this procedure, surgeons will close the perforation. Our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, is requesting $363 to fund this procedure. This covers medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Roth's mother said, “I hope this surgery will stop my daughter’s repeated ear infections and help her hear better. It has been difficult to see her suffer for so many years, and I am very grateful for this opportunity.”
