Molika is a three-year-old girl from Cambodia. She lives with her mother, four-year-old brother, and grandmother in Takeo province. Her mother earns a living by selling fruit in the market, while her grandmother sews clothes to support the family. Molika loves playing with her brother and drinking milk.
Two years ago, Molika accidentally burned her right hand with a hot pot. The burn caused tightening of the skin around her right fingers, particularly in the web space between them. This has made it difficult for her to move her fingers freely and use her hand for daily tasks.
Molika was brought to our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, to seek treatment. On May 6th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to improve the function of her right hand. Now, she needs help to fund this $495 procedure.
Molika’s grandmother shared, “I hope my granddaughter will be able to use her hand easily after the surgery.”

Molika underwent a successful release of burn contractures surgery, accompanied by a full-thickness skin graft on her right hand. This procedure will greatly enhance her ability to use her hand after her burn injury. During the surgery, the surgeons released the scar contracture on her left middle finger and inserted a pin to keep the joint straight. This pin will be removed after three weeks. Following the surgery, the release of the tightened skin will allow her to improve her hand coordination and fine motor skills, such as grasping objects and feeding herself.
Molika’s grandmother shared, “I’m happy that my granddaughter’s hand is getting better, and I hope she will be able to use her hand like other children soon.”
