Khoeun is a 32-year-old truck driver from Cambodia. He lives with his uncle in Phnom Penh, where he moved to last year to find more job opportunities. He has a wife and one-year-old daughter who live in Prey Veng province, about two hours from Phnom Penh. He currently works long days as a truck driver, and visits his family often. During his free time, enjoys listening to music and spending time with his daughter. About 20 years ago, Khoeun had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, an abnormal skin growth, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. For this reason, Khoeun has been experiencing hearing loss, tinnitus, ear discharge, and frequent headaches. It has become increasingly difficult for him to communicate with people, including his employer, colleagues, and even when he is away on the road. Our partner Children's Surgical Center is helping Khoeun receive treatment. On June 17th, he will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure in his right ear to remove the cholesteatoma. Khoeun is able to contribute $200 towards the procedure, and needs help raising $726 more to cover the full treatment, including medications, supplies, and inpatient care. Khoeun says: "I hope my hearing can be improved, so I can stop worrying about my ear and be able to do my job easily to support my family."

Srey Rout is a 23-year-old factory worker from Cambodia. She lives with her parents, two siblings, and grandmother. She is the oldest among her siblings, who are both still in school. Her mother works in a factory and her father is a rice farmer. Currently, Srey Rout works alongside her mother to support the family. When she is not working, Srey Rout helps to care for her 80-year-old grandmother. Srey Rout was born with bilateral cleft lip and cleft palate, a condition affecting the development of her facial and dental structures. Since infancy, she has undergone several surgeries to address the gap on both sides of her upper lip and the opening in the roof of her mouth. These conditions have made it challenging for her to speak clearly and have resulted in dental and facial asymmetry, including missing or misaligned malformed teeth. She has recently experienced complications from previous surgeries. Surgeons need to remove unhealthy bone and create a flap to cover the exposed bone. This will involve delicate localized adjustments in her bone structure. When Srey Rout learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre (CSC), she traveled for two hours seeking treatment. On July 2nd, surgeons at CSC will perform a remodeling of the maxillary bone with a mucosal flap to cover exposed bone, and the removal of previous plate and screws to improve her overall facial symmetry, correct skeletal misalignment, and enhance her dental function and appearance. Srey Rout's family is able to contribute $100 towards her medical costs but needs help raising the remaining $573 to fund the procedure. Srey Rout said: "I have had many operations and hope that soon I can chew food and be able to smile."

Jeremias is a two-month-old baby from Bolivia. He lives with his mother, father, and three older siblings in a rural area two hours outside the capital. Jeremias' parents are both farmers. Jeremias has a cardiac condition called coarctation of aorta. He was born with an aorta that is narrower than normal. His heart struggles to pass blood through the valve, leading to weakness and heart failure. On June 26th, he will undergo cardiac surgery at our medical partner's care center, Hospital del Niño Dr. Ovidio Aliaga Uría. During surgery, surgeons will open his aorta to a size where blood can flow more easily. Jeremias' family needs help to fund the costs of cardiac care and surgery. The $1,500 requested by our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, covers cardiac exams and diagnostics, surgical costs, follow-up care, and medications. Jeremias' mother shared, "Our family has been very sad and frightened because our son has been so sick since he was born. We are very happy to know that there is a way to fix his heart problem!"
