Morn underwent surgery on her eyes to stop her discomfort and prevent blindness.

Morn was grateful for the recommendation by her provincial hospital to have her eyelids repaired. Without surgery, she could permanently damage her cornea. Morn traveled three and a half hours by tuk-tuk and had successful surgery. She applied ointment four times daily and eyedrops eight times daily to aid in healing. Her eyes should be completely healed within two weeks. With improved eyesight, she will be able to do more to help her children and grandchildren.

Morn shared: “I am happy I can see better after so many years; I have no more tearing or pain. Thank you to the staff and the donors who supported me. I didn’t want to stay home and be lonely, and now I can travel again.”

Morn is a loving grandmother from Cambodia. She is a widow and has three sons, three daughters, and 20 grandchildren. She lives with her sister and is supported by her children. Morn enjoys spending her time visiting the nearby pagoda and caring for her grandchildren.

Five years ago, Morn developed entropian of the eyelids. This means that she has a condition in which her eyelid is turned inward so that her eyelashes rub against her eyeball, causing discomfort. It is difficult for her to open her eye and see. Left untreated, it can cause damage to the transparent covering in the front part of her eye (cornea), eye infections, and permanent vision loss.

Morn traveled to our medical partner’s care center to receive treatment. On November 21st, surgeons at our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), will perform a corrective procedure to repair her eyelids. Now, Morn needs help to raise $249 to fund this procedure.

Morn said: “I hope after surgery my eye won’t have irritation and will feel comfortable. I am lonely because I have to stay inside the house and I want to visit my family.”

Dollores

Dollores is a hardworking 59-year-old woman from Philippines. She was an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher, and then worked as a call center agent. Unfortunately, in October 2022, she was dismissed from her job due to being medically unfit. Now, she lives with her daughter and family, and the sole breadwinner is her son-in-law, who works in finance. In June 2022, Dollores noticed a mass on her right breast. At her initial examination, she was told that the mass was benign, but in a follow-up biopsy, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. Without treatment, the cancer may spread to other organs. A mastectomy, or a surgery to remove breast tissue, has been recommended to remove the cancer and prevent it from metastasizing. Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines (WSFP), is helping Dollores receive treatment. On January 7th, she will undergo a mastectomy at WSFP's care center. After treatment, Dollores will hopefully return to a cancer-free life. A portion of the cost of her treatment is being supported by the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation. Dollores needs help raising $1,058 to cover the remaining cost of her procedure and care. Dollores shared tearfully, "your help brings relief to my heart and mind. This will ease my worries, especially about the medical bill. I believe that there's a reason why you're saving me, and that's for me to continue with my life. Thank you, WATSI and World Surgical Foundation Philippines! I hope to give back the help that you've given me."
