Hong is an 18-year-old truck driver from Prey Veng Province in Cambodia. He lives with his parents, who are rice farmers, and has one older brother who works as a truck driver. He enjoys playing volleyball with his friends in his free time, and is active in his village community. In May 2024, Hong was involved in a traffic accident that caused a fracture in his lower right leg. Doctors performed open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) procedure and implanted a plate and screws in his leg. Since the surgery, he has experienced occasional pain and discomfort in his right leg, especially when walking or doing daily activities. This has affected his comfort and mobility, particularly during work and movement. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On May 18th, Hong will undergo a hardware removal procedure to help reduce pain and discomfort, improve mobility, and allow him to walk more comfortably and return to his normal daily and working activities. Hong is contributing to his treatment, but needs to raise $328 more for his procedure. He says: “I hope that removing the plate and screws will help reduce my pain, make walking easier, and allow me to move more comfortably in my daily life.”

Martha is 46 years old and a mother of four from Ethiopia. Martha and her family are refugees who have been granted asylum by the Government of Kenya. Martha’s husband recounts how he narrowly escaped death and walked long distances to reach the border. Although he holds a master’s degree, securing formal employment has been extremely difficult. Currently, he earns a living through small-scale hawking within the neighborhood, while Martha works informally as a cook at a roadside kiosk. Six years ago, Martha began to experience troubling symptoms, including a small swelling on her neck that gradually continued to grow. Initially, it was painless, but over time she began experiencing headaches, eye pain, and sensations such as a rapid heartbeat. She sought medical care at a hospital, where tests were conducted, but she was informed that the results were inconclusive. She was diagnosed with multinodular goiter. She needs surgery to prevent her symptoms from getting worse. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Martha receive treatment. She is scheduled to undergo a thyroidectomy on February 24th. Surgeons will remove all or part of her thyroid gland. This procedure will cost $633, and she and her family need help raising money. “We are refugees with no family members who can support us. We are praying for help so that I can undergo surgery, return to my normal life, and continue supporting my family,” said Martha.

Koemly is a hardworking university student from Cambodia. He is a 25-year-old computer science student from Kampong Thom Province. He currently lives in Phnom Penh with friends while attending university. His parents are rice farmers, and he is the youngest of three siblings. His sister is a grocery seller, and his brother is studying banking at university. To help support himself and his studies, he works part-time for a delivery company. In his free time, he enjoys playing football with his friends. In May 2026, Koemly was involved in a traffic accident between a motorcycle and a car while returning home from work. The accident caused a fracture of the shaft of his left femur and facial injuries. After the accident, he lost consciousness at the scene and was taken by bystanders to Preah Kossamak Hospital. There, he underwent debridement and primary closure of facial lacerations, as well as an external fixation for the left femur fracture. He remained hospitalized for eight days before being discharged. Although his facial wounds are healing, his left femur fracture has not yet stabilized. He continues to experience pain, stiffness, and significant difficulty with movement. He is unable to walk independently and requires assistance with daily activities. Fortunately, surgeons at our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, can help. On June 5th, Koemly will undergo a fracture repair procedure, which will stabilize the fracture, promote proper healing, reduce pain, and improve mobility. It will help him walk independently again and allow him to return to his studies, work, and normal daily activities. His family can contribute $50, but needs help raising $550 more to fund his procedure and care. Koemly said, “I hope this treatment will help my leg heal properly so I can walk again, return to university, and continue my studies. I am grateful for this opportunity and look forward to recovering and becoming independent again.”
