Meet Chawezi, a 13-year-old boy from Malawi whose name means “a gift” in the Tumbuka language. He is the oldest in his family and has one younger sibling. Chawezi is a hardworking and bright student in Form 3 at a boarding school. His mother works as a saleswoman, and his father is currently out of work, which led his family to seek financial support for Chawezi’s medical care. In his free time, Chawezi enjoys reading and eating chips and chicken.
Over three years ago, Chawezi was diagnosed with a right inguinal hernia. He has been to the hospital several times over the years, but unfortunately, he has not been able to receive much help. Currently, the hernia causes him pain, making him unable to concentrate on his studies.
Fortunately, our medical partner can help Chawezi receive the treatment he needs to heal. On June 5th, he will undergo hernia repair surgery that will allow him to live more comfortably and confidently. Chawezi’s family is able to contribute $40.43 towards the cost of his treatment and needs help raising $575 more to fund this procedure.
Chawezi said, “I want to get better and go back to school in good condition because I don’t want to die.”
