Daniel is a 38-year-old talented basket weaver from Kenya and the third of seven siblings, many of whom have their own families. Together, they face the challenge of supporting their households and aging parents.
Earlier this month, after a long day of walking and selling his baskets, Daniel was heading home when a suddenly out-of-control motorbike struck him, leaving him unconscious on the ground. When he regained consciousness, Daniel found himself in hospital, where good Samaritans had taken him after noticing him lying by the roadside. He was in excruciating pain, with his left leg suffering the most severe injuries from the accident.
He received initial medical care and was transferred to our medical partner’s care center, AIC Kijabe Hospital. Medical examinations revealed that he had broken bones in his left leg, necessitating fracture repair surgery. The doctors have emphasized the urgency of his surgery, as his condition will deteriorate further without it. Despite reaching out to friends for assistance, Daniel’s family has struggled to secure the funds needed for his treatment. He remains in intense pain and is experiencing significant stress. In just 10 hours, his family managed to gather $140 for the initial treatment bill, but they have been unable to raise the full amount required for Daniel’s surgery, leaving them uncertain about where to find the necessary financial support.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare is helping Daniel receive treatment. On November 11th, Daniel will undergo a fracture repair procedure, called an open reduction and internal fixation. This procedure will involve inserting nails to help align the fractured bones and support his healing. Now, Daniel needs help to fund this $1,115.
Daniel says, “The pain is overwhelming; all I want is to walk again, return to weaving baskets, and support my family.”
