Savath is a young boy from Cambodia. He lives in Oddar Meanchey province with his parents and siblings. His father works as a construction worker, while his mother stays at home to take care of the children and manage household chores. He has one older sister who is in Grade 5 and one older brother who is in Grade 1. He is currently not attending school. In his free time, he enjoys drinking milk and playing with toys with his siblings.
When he was five months old, Savath accidentally fell into a campfire at home. He has scar contractures affecting his neck, the commissure of his mouth, and his lower eyelids. The burn scar contractures tighten the skin around his face and neck, making it difficult for him to breathe, eat, and speak properly. This condition causes discomfort and may affect his growth and daily development.
When Savath’s family learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, they traveled for seven hours seeking treatment. On March 5th, surgeons at CSC will perform a burn contracture release surgery to help release the scar contractures, improve his ability to breathe, eat, and speak more comfortably, and support his normal growth and development. Now, he needs help to fund this $652 procedure.
Savath’s mother shared, “It breaks my heart to see my son struggle to breathe, eat, and speak because of the burn scars on his face and neck. I truly hope this treatment will help release the tight scars, make his life easier, and allow him to grow up more comfortably and confidently.”
