Jose is a four-month-old boy from Guatemala. He is malnourished. Malnutrition can lead to starvation and dehydration, as well as provoke electrolyte imbalances that can cause seizures. Brain development occurring during this delicate time is compromised and Jose is at risk of long term damage.
Fortunately, Jose began malnutrition treatment on October 17, 2016.
Jose’s father works as a day laborer in the fields, and his mother manages their home. While they want Jose to get better and are committed to doing all that they can to help him, they cannot afford this $1,107 treatment.
Malnutrition, while dangerous, is easy to treat. By supplying the baby with formula and the mother with health education, Jose will receive the calories he needs to grow and thrive. One-on-one motivational education with Jose’s mother will teach her how to make a nutritious, inexpensive diet for Jose and check for signs of malnutrition and other illness. Jose’s immune system will strengthen and he will grow up to be a healthy, energetic baby.
