Harriet is a 68-year-old widow and mother of six children from Uganda. She loves spending time with her grandchildren to share happy moments laughing and telling them stories about their childhood. Harriet used to farm to support her livelihood. However, as she aged and her health condition became more severe, she depends on others for her daily needs.
About ten years ago, Harriet began to have severe back pain. Her condition progressively worsened, and she eventually became unable to stand or walk. She learned to cope with her condition by moving around on her knees, but the pain has significantly impacted her mobility and independence. Then, about one month ago, Harriet developed a sudden swelling on her right knee that has caused her considerable pain and discomfort. She sought medical attention at a regional hospital, but due to the large number of patients at the facility, she was unable to receive the assistance she needed and returned home without treatment. She then visited our medical partner’s hospital due to the worsening pain and discomfort. Her doctor recommended she undergo surgery to remove the mass. Given her medical history and the impacts of her condition on her health and wellbeing, timely medical intervention is important to relieve her pain, improve her comfort, and prevent further complications.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, can help Harriet receive the care she needs. On October 1st, she will undergo mass removal surgery. Harriet’s family is requesting financial assistance to fund the $134 cost of her procedure and care.
Despite the challenges she has experienced for many years, Harriet remains hopeful that treatment will bring her relief and allow her to continue enjoying precious moments with her grandchildren, sharing stories and laughter with them.
Harriet said, “I have lived with difficulty walking for many years, but I have always tried to remain strong. Now this painful swelling on my knee has made my situation even harder. I am appealing to the AMH-SAFE donors to come to my assistance so that I can receive the surgery I need. I pray that after the operation, I will heal, have less pain, and be able to enjoy my life and my grandchildren again. I will be deeply grateful for any support given to me and my family.”
