Phat is a 73-year-old retired soldier. He was married with four children, but his wife and two of his children have unfortunately passed away. Now he lives with his son who is a mechanic. At home, he enjoys spending his time watching TV and listening to the news on the radio.
One year ago, Phat developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him to experience blurry vision and light sensitivity. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on his own.
When Phat learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre, he traveled for one and a half hours seeking treatment. On July 5th, doctors will perform a small incision cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Now, he needs help to fund this $253 procedure.
Phat says, “I hope after surgery my eye can see better and I can go outside and recognize things well again.”

Phat underwent cataract surgery so he is able to see clearly once again.
For several years, Phat’s vision had slowly deteriorated and recently he was unable to go outside. He told us how this caused him to lose face because he could not help at his son’s house due to his poor vision. After surgery, he returned home to his province and his sight had already improved drastically. He rested for a few days and applied eye drops to aid in the healing and decrease the risk of infection. The cataract surgery will improve his life because he will feel more useful to his family and be more independent.
Phat’s son said: “We are grateful my father can be more independent since his surgery. He looks forward to visiting with family and neighbors again. Thank you to everyone that helped as well as the hospital staff.”
