Birungi is a 38-year-old woman from Uganda. She is the mother to four children, one boy and three girls, and an entrepreneur. Birungi owns a retail shop, which she works at to help support her family and send her children to school.
In 2013, while Birungi was pregnant, she noticed that her scar from a previous C-section was swelling. After giving birth, this incisional hernia was temporarily repaired. Recently, when lifting a heavy bag of flour, Birungi felt a sharp pain in her abdomen and the swelling increased so much that she had to go to the hospital.
To stop her pain and discomfort, and to prevent any further damage, Birungi will receive treatment at our medical partner’s hospital, Holy Virika Hospital, on July 19. The procedure will cost $249.
Birungi looks forward to recovering and returning to her normal life.
“After surgery I will do my business without anything disturbing me,” she says.
