Cindy is a 36-year-old woman from Romblon, Philippines. She works for the local electric cooperative and takes pride in her job.
In July 2024, Cindy felt a small lump in her throat. She had previously been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder, which made her more worried about the sudden mass. She traveled to Manila and consulted a doctor, who recommended surgery to remove her right thyroid. This recommendation increased her anxiety, and she was unable to proceed with the operation at that time.
The following year, Cindy decided to move forward with the surgery. However, during a follow-up visit, she learned that she was pregnant, which meant she had to delay her surgery. After childbirth, the goiter continued to increase in size, which further worsened her fears and anxiety. In October 2025, after giving birth to her third child, she returned to the hospital to ask about the next steps for the surgery. The doctor informed her of the cost of the surgery, and she realized she could not afford it. Disheartened, she decided to save money for a future operation.
Fortunately, our medical partner, World Surgical Foundation Philippines, can help. On January 28th, Cindy will undergo surgery to address her symptoms and allow her to live more comfortably. She needs help to raise $1,494 to fund her procedure and care.
Cindy shared, “I’m going to take better care of myself and eat healthier. Although I am uncertain how things are going to be after the operation, I am definitely sure that my anxiety will be lessened because I do not have to think about my goiter.”
