Say hello to Maria, a one-year old girl! She is the youngest of four children and lives with her parents and siblings in Guatemala. Maria’s father is a day laborer and earns enough to put some food on the table but with Maria’s severe illness, they are struggling financially.
As a result of malnutrition, Maria is very small and developmentally, she is 6-8 months behind. She had severe pneumonia several months ago and since then, has never really recovered.
“I am very worried about Maria, especially because she is growing so much more slowly than my other children. She does not sit or talk,” says Maria’s mother.
For $535, doctors can treat Maria for acute malnutrition. “We hope that with aggressive nutritional intervention, Maria will have improved appetite and energy, improved motor and language development, and improved overall growth,” explain our medical partners, Wuqu’ Kawoq.
Let’s get Maria the help she needs to live a healthy life!
