Nu is a 17-year-old girl from Burma. She lives with her aunt and two cousins in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, Thailand. They moved to Thailand due to the political issues in Burma in search of better job opportunities and a safe place to stay. One of her cousins works at a plastic factory and her aunt and another cousin work as agricultural day laborers.
Since 2022, Zin has experienced bloating of her belly, along with tightness and abdominal pain. However, she did not go to any clinic because she thought that her condition would improve on its own. On November 1st, 2024, she noticed that her stomach had become larger, and felt more pain. Her aunt took her to the clinic where she received a blood and urine test and an ultrasound. The medic told her that according to the ultrasound image, she had a large ovarian tumor.
Zin was referred to our medical partner’s care center, Mae Sot Hospital (MSH), for further investigation. There, doctors confirmed she would need to undergo surgery to remove the tumor. Her surgery is scheduled for November 29th and our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 for Zin’s procedure and care.
Zin’s aunt expressed her thankfulness, stating, “Thank you so much to BCMF and the donors for helping with my niece’s surgery cost.” Zin also added, “Thank you to the donors. I will find a new job after my surgery.”
