Amelida is a 47-year-old woman living in Guatemala who is fighting cancer. Amelida saved her own money and received successful surgery at a private hospital, but she needs additional funds to pay for the chemotherapy that should follow. The chemotherapy should be curative, eliminating any additional cancer that might cause a recurrence.
Amelida was referred to our medical partner, Wuqu’ Kawoq, by a community health project in Guatemala that specializes in managing chemotherapy cases, preventing and managing side effects, and navigating the bureaucracy of hospitals in the area.
The project can cover the cost of Amelida’s chemotherapy medicine - but they’re counting on us to raise $800 for transportation, medication for side effects, and lab work that will be very important over the coming months. Raising these funds will ensure Amelida has a safe and complete recovery from her cancer.

Amelida received chemotherapy to fight cancer.
Amelida recently received her last round of chemotherapy and she is doing great! She has done remarkably well, with no significant complications. She feels well, has good energy and appetite. This chemotherapy was designed to eliminate any “micro tumors” left behind after her surgery. The doctors at Wuqu’ Kawoq report that Amelida should be cured now and they will continue to monitor her over the next few years. Thank you for helping Amelida beat cancer!
Amelida is very thankful for all of the help from the medical team and the amazing Watsi donors for making this happen. She was glad to be getting this over with before the holidays so she could spend quality time with her family.
