Valencia is a two-month-old baby from Kenya. She lives with her mother, her mother’s three younger siblings, and her grandmother in a one-room house.
Valencia has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition where excess fluid accumulates in the skull, causing the brain to swell. If not treated, she is at risk of having delayed milestones, becoming visually impaired, and accumulating cerebrospinal fluid, which may cause brain damage.
Fortunately, with the help of our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation, Valencia is scheduled to receive treatment on August 4. The surgeon plans to perform a shunt insertion surgery, which will involve inserting a tube to drain the excess cerebrospinal fluid in her body. Her family needs help raising $685.
