Nang’ida is a two-year-old girl from Tanzania who suffered a severe burn to her right leg when hot porridge fell from an open fire.
At the age of two, Nang’ida should be learning to walk, but she can’t because she suffers from a skin contracture (tightening of skin that results from a third degree burn) behind her right knee that prevents her from standing. Fortunately, doctors in Tanzania believe that with simple surgery, they can release the contracture and enable Nang’ida to stand on her own and learn to walk.
According to her doctors, Nang’ida is a proud and “stoic child.” Because of her condition, Nang’ida’s mother has to carry her around, but she surely wants to learn to walk on her own. Let’s help her receive the care she needs to live an independent life.
