Five years ago, while working for an electric utility company, Erick lost his right arm in a high energy voltage discharge. Erick is a strong and diligent worker, but finding employment after his accident has been extremely challenging.
When Erick heard about other amputees receiving prosthetics, he rushed to Wuqu’ Kawoq, our Guatemalan medical partner, to find if he could benefit from the same program. Erick has never had a prosthetic arm before, but he is hopeful that it will enable him to return to work and a productive, healthy life.
Wuqu’ Kawoq reports that Erick is extremely excited about the prospect of being fitted for a prosthetic arm, and that he never knew that “such a thing was possible in Guatemala.”
Typically, Erick is right - the expense of a prosthetic is out of reach for most people. But for $940, we pay for Erick to be fitted with a prosthetic arm so he can get back to work and provide for his family.
