Say hello to Shameem, a sweet three-year-old from Kenya! She has a six-year-old sister who just started school. Her mother is a housewife and her father works as a mechanic.
Recently, a candle in their home fell and set the house ablaze. Shameem was left with burn scars on her face and arm. The scars are very noticeable and if Shameem does not seek treatment she is likely to have low self-esteem as she grows up.
Shameem’s parents have successfully raised $375 towards a surgery that will help reduce the scarring, but they still need $1500 more. Her mother says, “I want my daughter to get well so that she can have a normal life and not be scared for life.”
Let’s help Shameem so she can grow up with good health and confidence!

Shameem received surgery for her severe burns.
“Shameem successfully underwent a burn contracture release on the hand,” reports our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare Foundation (AMHF). “She is recovering well. Shameem has been having serial scar excision in a series of surgeries (on her face and arm) at different points. The surgeons are hopeful that Shameem will recover well and need no further surgery.”
AMHF continues: “This treatment has given Shameen an opportunity to grow up normally. Shameem was submitted for Watsi support over a year ago while she was only 3 years old. She is now 4 years old, she is already enrolled into nursery school. She has only been in school for 1 term and she was top of her class! Shameem has grown very well: she is fluent in her speech, friendly and full of curiosity that children at that age have. She loves airplanes and wants to be a pilot.”
“When we brought Shameem to the hospital for treatment and were informed of the cost of the surgery, I lost hope of Shameem ever receiving treatment, as there was no way we could have afforded to pay for her,” Shameem’s mother shares. “I have no words that could tell the donors how grateful I am for their support. I pray that God will bless them abundantly. We will never forget their kindness.”
