Choy is a 65-year-old rice farmer who is married with five sons and nine grandchildren. He likes to watch boxing on TV and listen to the news on the radio in his free time.
About eight years ago, Choy developed a cataract in each eye, causing him blurred vision, irritation, tearing, cloudy lenses, and extreme sensitivity to light. When he learned about our medical partner, Children’s Surgical Centre (CSC), he traveled for four hours with his son to reach CSC for treatment. On October 20, doctors removed his cataracts and inserted lens implants. After surgery, he will be able to see clearly again.
“I hope I will be able to easily continue my work at the farm and do other work more easily than now,” shares Choy.

Choy successfully received vision-restoring cataract surgery.
Choy’s eye cataract was successfully removed from his right eye and clear vision has been restored. Following the operation, Choy was given eye drops to reduce inflammation and fight infection. He went home after the first surgery and has yet to return to have the same operation completed in the other eye. Because returning to the clinic requires taking a day off from work and usually a family escort, he may have had trouble finding a day to come back. Also, because he left with clear vision in one eye, his problems with blurred vision are less of a burden making the second surgery a less immediate priority than the first. The second surgery will be free whenever Choy returns.
“I am very happy that my father can see clearly again,” shares Choy’s son. “I am thankful.”
