Swalleh is a 60-year-old father of six children from Uganda. He and his wife practice small-scale farming to provide food for their family, and produce a surplus for sale to meet other household needs.
For about 12 years now, Swalleh has had a bilateral inguinal hernia, a condition that occurs when abdominal tissue protrudes through two weak spot in the lower abdominal muscles, causing a bulge in the groin area. The condition has been causing him significant pain and discomfort. He previously underwent surgery to close one of the areas, but he has continued to experience problems in another area.
His condition has significantly affected his daily life. He has difficulty bending, performing farm work, and carrying out his usual responsibilities at home. As a result, he is unable to participate fully in activities that were once part of his daily routine.
Fortunately, on September 2nd, he will undergo hernia repair surgery at our medical partner’s care center. Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $234 to fund Swalleh’s surgery. Once completed, this procedure will hopefully allow him to live more comfortably and confidently.
Swalleh says, “I will be most happy to find relief from this pain. I hope to be well soon, and resume with my duties of farming after recovery.”
