Jessica is a toddler from Tanzania. She is almost two years old and is the second child in a warm and close-knit household. Her parents work tirelessly as small-scale farmers, relying on their modest harvests to provide food and meet the basic needs of their family. Jessica is a cheerful and spirited child, full of energy and deeply attached to her mother, with whom she spends most of her days.
Jessica suffered a burn injury that left her with a contracture on the fingers of her right hand, causing tight, restrictive scarring that limits her ability to move her small fingers freely.
Fortunately, our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is helping Jessica receive treatment. On December 16th, surgeons at their care center will perform contracture release surgery and a skin graft to help restore mobility to her little fingers. Her parents hope this treatment will allow their daughter to grow, play, learn, and someday write her name without the limitations of her injury. Now, she needs help to fund this $832 procedure.
Jessica’s mother says, “It’s sad seeing my daughter struggle to hold things with her hand and not being able to help her.”
