Garoma is a farmer from Ethiopia. This 70-year-old farmer has worked the land all his life alongside his wife, who farms with him. Together they raised eight children, four sons and four daughters. He lives in a rural area with two of his children and his grandchildren, and he still farms to feed the family and pay his grandchildren's school fees. For more than thirteen years he has lived with an enlarged prostate, known as benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Three years ago his symptoms became much worse. He went to the nearest health centre, but there was no surgeon there who could operate, so he was sent home to cope as best he could. His condition has now grown serious. He travelled to the city, where his eldest daughter lives, to find proper care. Doctors there confirmed the diagnosis and told him he needs surgery, but his family cannot afford it. Our medical partner, Saglan Wajee General Hospital, is requesting $900 to fund the procedure. The treatment is scheduled to take place on October 29th and, once completed, will improve Garoma's quality of life. Garoma shared, "I just want to live without this pain and discomfort, and without the shame I carry every day."

Pla is a 49-year-old woman from Burma. She lives with her husband, three daughters, and son in a refugee camp in Thailand. Her husband works as a security guard in their section of the camp, while she works as a hospital helper at the camp hospital. Her son is a homemaker, two of her daughters are students, and her other daughter works for an organisation in the camp. In her free time, Pla enjoys weaving traditional Karen clothing with her daughters. When she was 10 years old, Pla lost vision in her right eye in an accident. In 2024, Pla started experiencing pain in her right eye. Later on, she also developed pain in her left eye. She was diagnosed with a cataract in her left eye and chronic ocular discomfort in her right eye. Doctors recommend enucleation, the removal of the eye, to treat this condition. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund, is requesting $1,500 to help fund this surgery. The treatment is scheduled to take place on July 16th at our medical partner's care center, Maharaj Nakorn Chiang Mai Hospital. Once completed, Pla will hopefully live more comfortably. Pla said, “I would like to get proper treatment because my eye is in pain. I worry that it will affect my other eye. I hope that I will be fine after receiving treatment.”

Phyo Min is a 31-year-old agricultural day labourer from Burma. He lives with his wife, two sons, and daughter in a refugee village in Mae Sot District, Tak Province, Thailand. Phyo Min works as an agricultural day labourer in the corn fields near his village, while his wife is a homemaker. Their three children are students attending a migrant school. Originally from Bago Division, Burma, the family moved to Thailand in 2020 to seek better job opportunities. On the 9th of March 2026, Phyo Min experienced severe upper right abdominal pain, fever, and vomiting. After several tests, doctors found that he had multiple stones in the intrahepatic duct (IHD) and common hepatic duct (CHD) with recurrent pyogenic cholangitis. Phyo Min has been advised to undergo a cholecystectomy, the surgical removal of the gallbladder. If left untreated, his symptoms will continue to worsen and put her at risk for further health complications in the future. Our medical partner, Burma Children Medical Fund (BCMF), is helping Phyo Min undergo surgery on August 14th. BCMF is requesting $1,500 to cover the total cost of Phyo Min's procedure and care. Phyo Min said, "I am happy and excited to receive surgery, but I am also a bit scared. However, without surgery, I won't feel better, so this is the only option that will help me get better. After treatment, I will rest for a while and go back to work as soon as possible, as I am the only person who can support my family."
