Francis is an 18-year-old boy from Kenya. He lives with his mother, who provides for their family by selling vegetables at a local shopping center. Two years ago, Francis was diagnosed with a urethrocutaneous fistula (an opening from the urethra to the outside). This has caused bladder and kidney infections, and minor loss of bladder control. If left untreated, Francis could develop infections which may severely affect his urinary system.
When asked about his illness Francis said, “I hope that one day I will not have to hide [it] from friends for fear of stigmatization and that I will be able to continue with my education through University.” With your help, hopefully Francis will be able to reach his future goals and complete his education.
The required treatment, a fistulectomy (surgical removal of the fistulous tract) costs $450. If successful Francis should no longer be at risk for future infections and should be able to return to a normal life.
