Arthur is a six-month-old infant from Haiti who lives with his mother and father. Arthur has been diagnosed with hydrocephalus, a condition in which excess cerebrospinal fluid accumulates in the brain and increases intracranial pressure. As a result of his condition, Arthur has been experiencing increasing head circumference. Without treatment, Arthur will experience severe physical and developmental delays. Our medical partner, Project Medishare, is requesting $897 to cover the cost of surgery for Arthur at Hospital Bernard Mevs. This is the only site in the country where this care is currently available and the procedure is scheduled to take place on June 27th. This critical treatment will drain the excess fluid from Arthur's brain to reduce intracranial pressure and greatly improve his quality of life. With proper treatment, Arthur will hopefully develop into a strong, healthy young boy. Arthur's family is looking forward to a successful surgery that will give their son a chance at a healthy life.

Kuoch is a 52-year-old father of five. He and his wife are rice farmers in Kampong Cham province, Cambodia. Most of Kuoch's day is filled with tending the rice paddies, but in the evening, he enjoys listening to the radio for the latest news and spending time with his three grandchildren. About five months ago, Kuoch developed a cataract in his left eye, causing him sensitivity to light and blurry vision. He has difficulty navigating the irrigation system or leveling the land for proper water levels. A cataract is a clouding of the lens of the eye, so it is like looking through a frosty or fogged-up window. He has difficulty seeing things clearly, including colors and faces, and is worried about falling when walking, so is not able to go places on his own. When Kuoch learned about our medical partner, Children's Surgical Centre, he traveled for three and a half hours seeking treatment. On May 14th, doctors will perform phacoemulsification cataract surgery and an intraocular lens implant in his left eye. After recovery, he will be able to see clearly. Kuoch and his family are able to contribute $50 but need $203 more to fund this procedure. Kuoch shared, "I hope after this operation I can see well to work on my farm to feed my family and sell our rice."

Thy Cheng is a 37-year-old mother from Cambodia. She lives with her husband and three children in rural Koh Krong province, near the border with Thailand. Her husband works in construction, while Thy Cheng sells fish in the local market. While at home, she likes gardening and spending time with her kids. When she was a toddler, Thy Cheng had an ear infection. This infection caused a cholesteatoma, an abnormal collection of skin cells, to develop in the middle ear behind the ear drum. For this reason, Thy Cheng has been experiencing hearing loss, tinnitus, and ear discharge. It is difficult for her to communicate with people, and she is unable to work full-time due to frequent discomfort. Thy Cheng traveled to our medical partner's care center, Children's Surgical Centre, to receive treatment. On May 2nd, she will undergo a mastoidectomy procedure to remove the cholesteatoma. Thy Cheng is able to contribute $100 towards the cost of her treatment, and needs help raising $826 more to fund the procedure. Thy Cheng says, "I hope that my hearing will improve, so I can communicate better with my family and my customers."
