Abigael is a nine-year-old girl from Tanzania. She has six siblings. Abigael’s parents are farmers who rely on crop cultivation for food and income.
When Abigael was two years old, shortly after she started walking, her mother noticed that her legs were bowing outward. Abigael was diagnosed with genu varus. Several factors could cause this condition, such as growth disorders, vitamin deficiencies, or excessive fluoride found in contaminated drinking water. As a result, the knees can be angled inwards or outwards, making it difficult to walk and may cause long-term joint damage, pain, and difficulty walking.
Our medical partner, African Mission Healthcare, is requesting $695 to fund treatment for Abigael. Originally they planned for a bilateral surgery on both legs, but they determined that casting both legs and surgery on the left leg will be the best treatment plan right now. Her procedure is scheduled to take place on October 22nd at our medical partner’s care center. Treatment will hopefully restore Abigael’s mobility, allow her to participate in a variety of activities, and greatly decrease her risk of future complications.
Abigael’s father says, “Please help my daughter because this condition could hold her back on things she wants to do.”
