Five-year-old Aliya lives with her parents and older brother in a small town in northern Haiti. She just completed preschool and will be joining kindergarten in the fall.
Aliya was born with one of the four valves in her heart unable to open and close properly. This cardiac condition is known as congenital mitral valve insufficiency, which makes it difficult for her heart to pump blood through her body.
Aliya will fly to the Dominican Republic, and on July 21st, she will undergo cardiac surgery at Hospital CEDIMAT, for repair of the mitral valve. Our medical partner, International Cardiac Alliance, is contributing the money to pay for the operation.
Aliya’s family needs help to fund the costs of the surgery prep, lab tests, medicines and follow up care. Additionally, they need support to cover the costs of travel documents for the family, as well as travel costs for the social workers who will accompany Fabienne’s family to the Dominican Republican. The family is seeking $1,500 to cover these ancillary costs.
Aliya’s mother said: “Our family is so happy to know that there is a chance for our daughter’s heart to become normal!”
